Few Candidates File For April Elections

The Clark County R-1 board of education is sure to have some new faces after the April 8 elections.  Four candidates have filed for three open seats, and two sitting members did not file for re-election.
Current member Kristy Lovell is seeking to retain her seat.  Ruth Brotherton is seeking a return to the board, and newcomers Brad Sprague and Kevin Ross are seeking seats.
The the CCR-1 and Revere districts also have a petition on the ballot.  The proposition  reads, “Shall the boundary line be changed so that all of Clark County Road number 79 that lies within the Sweet Home Township number 66-N, Range 7-W, Section 19, 30 and 31 now in Revere C-3 School District be detached therefrom and made part of the Clark County R-1 School District effective April 8, 2008.”  Voters in both districts will have to approve the change.
The Kahoka Board of Aldermen will not change, as current members Larry Young and Curtis Mack were the only candidates that filed.
In Wayland’s East Ward, Tim Severin is the only candidiate filed, and Joni Gormand and Linda Hill Booth have filed for the West Ward Alderman position.
In the Wayland Special Road District, John Campbell, Bruce Spurgeon and Ronald Duck Gates have filed.
Four candidates will file for three seats on the Luray school board.  Lesley Yoder, Corey Wagers, Gary Boatmand and Erin March have filed.  In addition Lonnie Sommers and Rebecca Burr have filed for an unexpired term vacacny.
Clark County is seeking the reauthorization of the 1/2 cent sales tax  for the purposes of improving county roads.
The filing deadline for some races is Tuesday, January 29, and these were the filings at press time.
