CCR-1 Faces 22% Health Insurance Increase
Clark County R-1 Schools is facing a 22.2 percent increase in employee health insurance. At Thursday’s meeting of the CCR-1 Board of Education, the board tackled the increase.
The district is part of a consortium of 13 schools to keep insurance costs lower. However, group costs exceeded the amount charged last year, causing the increase.
The board voted to continue the current health plan for employees, which offers a $750 deductible, and offer the option of a Health Savings Account. The increased cost for the district will be $122,463.
The board also discussed the transition of Wyaconda students. Kindergarten through fourth grade visited Black Hawk on Friday, May 2.
“Things really went well,” said CCR-1 Supt. Ritchie Kracht. “The kids had a great time, and we had a great meeting with their parents earlier tonight.”
Fifth through eighth graders visited last week, and the eighth graders also toured the high school
“It’s been very positive. Parents have been pleasantly surprised how happy their kids were,” Middle School principal Jason Church added.
Wyaconda students have also been invited to attend summer school at CCR-1.
The board discussed several maintenance needs of the district, including the middle school roof, which is leaking in
several places, the “crow’s nest” hand railings at the football field, high school parking lot.
The board heard a report on the district’s Career Ladder program from Donna Flood and Kay Sprague. The program rewards teachers for extra work and longevity in the district.
“Everything done for career ladder is above and beyond the regular contract,” Flood said. She reported that teachers put in a total of 8164 career ladder hours this year, 4423 of which were in direct contact with students, such as tutoring.
Kracht reported that the average daily attendance has increased. April’s average was 843.05, with year to date of 845.65. The attendance rate in all buildings is again above 95 percent.
In other business, the board:
–Recognized Daryle Goldie and Brittany Logsdon as Academic All State basketball players.
–Approved the service agreement with Discovery Education for streaming video.
–Accepted a bid for a driver’s education car from Advantage Auto for no cost. Kahoka Motors was also no cost, and the district alternates between dealers.
–Appointed Kristy Lovell as delegate to the Missouri School Board Assoc. Carmen Arnold is the alternate.
–Discussed elementary class sizes.
–Approved hiring an addition MS softball assistant coach and two additional HS basketball coaches.
–Approved changes in the Math and Business classes.
In closed session, the board approved the hiring of Ryan Bergeson as the assistant elementary school principal. Bergeson is currently a teacher and coach at Scotland County.
