Kahoka Council To Address Cemetery Complaints
Following a weekend cleanup at the cemetery, the Kahoka Board of Alderman heard complaints from several area residents at Monday night’s meeting. Flowers and decorations not meeting the cemetery guidelines were removed by the mowing crew over the weekend. In addition, some items were removed from graves cared for by families, which are exempt from the city guidelines. Further concerns were expressed about the mowers leaving ruts in wet ground, and not properly cleaning the gravestones after trimming.
“These people are acting as agents of the city,” Mike Scott told the board. “You need to make sure you are controlling their actions.”
After reviewing their agreement with the mowers, the board scheduled a meeting with the contractor to address the issues directly.
In other business, the board:
–Accepted a $725 bid from Dan Glascoe of Argyle, Iowa, for sidewalk replacement.
–Accepted a bid of $175 from Shelly Landscaping of Arbela for trimming and landscaping at City Hall.
–Review issues presented by pool manager Stephanie Summers. Concerns include replacing a door in the concession area, bathroom stalls, and several pool maintenance issues.
–Approved liquor license applications for Moose Lodge, Ayerco, Casey’s, Duer’s and Mac’s. Applications were not received from C&R, the Bulldog, or Froggies.
