Burglaries On Increase, Warns Clark County Sheriff

Burglaries On Increase, Warns Clark County Sheriff

By Kevin Fox

Over the past few months there have been at last three reported acts of burglary to Clark County Homes. This is a trend that Clark County Sheriff Paul Gaudette sees only increasing for a variety of reasons.
He stated in an interview, “We would encourage citizens to be cautious and aware of vehicles going by their homes slower than normal. Also notice their neighbor’s home for strange vehicles or activity during a time when they are normally at work. Part of the reason that people enjoy about living in Clark County is that it was a place that you could probably leave your home unlocked. It would be nice if it were still that way, but it’s not so, I urge citizens to lock their homes and take the keys out of their vehicles.  Of the three homes that were hit, two were locked and one was unlocked. These crimes occurred during the middle of the day when people were at work and their children were at school. As I stated earlier, I see this kind of crime only increasing. I also see residents doing more to combat buy installing alarm systems or hidden cameras. I don’t know what such systems would cast, but a simple game camera can be purchased for under $150.00 to monitor the activity around your home when you are away.
In the cases, which we are working currently, we are seeing the same kind of things taken. These are things that are quick to take, but very expensive. This would include items such as a Wii or an Ipod. The one exception was the recent break in to the Luray Post Office.
We are also very concerned about the arson cases we are experiencing around the Revere area. We have had our normal amount of fires elsewhere, but to have four fires in four months in one area. We have no doubt that somebody has to have seen something or knows something and it is very important that they come forward with that information. They can just call it in. The same goes for the burglary cases. If you see something that’s suspicious, give us a call. We would rather respond to something that turned out to be nothing, than have someone’s home be burglarized when we could have stopped it.
It’s also important that if you come home and see that someone is in your home that you do not confront them. Call us on your cell phone or from a neighbor’s phone. You may have no idea what you are walking into when you confront these people who may be armed with your own gun that they are stealing.”
Anyone with information about any of these burglaries or arsons is asked to contact the  Clark County Sheriff’s Department at 660-727-2911.  If you have information concerning the Luray Post Office burglary, contact the United States Postal Insepection Service at 1-877-876-2455.
