ATF Joins Arson Investigations
By Mike Scott
Federal investigators from the Bureau of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are working alongside Clark County Sheriff’s Department official investigating a number of recent arson fires in the Revere area.
In the past five month, there have been eight fires in the area. ?The most recent fire was at the former Revere Community Church early Thursday morning, April 23.
“The fire marshall has determined that a petroleum-based accelerant was used,” said Clark County Sheriff Paul Gaudette. “It was soaked into the ground where the fire started.”
Of the eight recent fires, seven are under criminal investigation.
“There’s a good chance that the other was electrical in nature,” Gaudette said, noting there was electrical arcing on some of the wiring.
The addition of the ATF agents adds some muscle to the investigation.
“We’re getting more help, more support and more technology,” Gaudette said.
Late last week, over 40 people were interviewed in connection with the investigation.
“All firefighters from Revere were interviewed, as well as all individuals reported as being seen at the fires. The Revere City Council members were also interviewed.
“We’re still seeking help from the public,” said Guadette. Persons with information leading to an arrest and conviction may be eligible for a reward of up to $5000.
