Through a joint drug investigation, conducted by Lee County Drug Task Force and
Clark County Sheriff’s Office, a search warrant was obtained and then served at
the Steven Hotop residence, located at 319 Pecan Street, Alexandria, Missouri,
on June 3, 2009. during the execution of this search, Methamphetamine,
Methamphetamine drug paraphernalia, prescription controlled substances and items
used in the destribution and sale of controlled substances were located in this
residence.
When officers entered the residence, a four year old,
male juvenile was located in the residence, where methamphetamine was being used
and methamphetamine paraphernalia was in easy access of the child, which caused
substantial risk to the the health and welfare of the child. Mr. Hotop also put
officers and the same child at risk, when he threw a large butane lighter at
officers, nearly missing officers and the small child.
Two
suspects, Steven C. Hotop, age 59, of Alexandria, Missouri and Ashley J.
Vorhees, age 25, of Keokuk, Iowa, were arrested and are being held in the Clark
County Detention Center, with each of their bonds set at $75,000 cash only. Both
are being charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, with Intent to
Distribute and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Mr. Hotop is also being
charged with Third Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer.
The
Clark County Sheriff would like to thank the Missouri State Highway Patrol,
LaGrange PD Caniane Unit, and Lee County Drug Task Force, for their assistance
during the execution of this search warrant, the arrests, and
transports.
