MULE FESTIVAL TIME IS ALMOST HERE

The Clark Co. Mule Festival will begin in a couple of weeks, September 18-20, 2009. It is held at the Clark Co. Fairgrounds (Business Route EE or old Highway 136) just out side of Kahoka, Mo., in the northeast corner of Missouri. This will be the 24rd year of this great event. People from all over the United States come to our mule and craft show!
This weekend features a Saturday and Sunday all day funny mule show as well as a Friday night mule polo, team penning, and roping. Saturday night is the Rodeo with all the exciting thrills of any rodeo. The festival also features area crafts, flea markets, tack vendors, food , trail riding on Saturday and Sunday mornings, coloring contest, camping , and church services. The main gate admission is free, but a $2.00 commemorative button is sold to help with festival expenses. The $2.00 button is also required as admission to the Saturday night Rodeo.

The week begins with campers from all over America coming in and parking. Campsites not available until Sunday , September 13, 2009. On Friday, vendors open at noon.
A fish fry at 5:00p.m. at the 4-H Pavilion sponsored by the Fine Arts Boosters of Kahoka.
Saturday morning opens with breakfast at the Clark Co. Rescue Squad’s stand on Vendor Alley at 6:00a.m. At 8:00a.m. the main office will open selling souvenirs, displaying the coloring contest, quilt for raffle, and festival history memorabilia . The crafts, many varieties of food, and the flea marketers will also open at 8:00a.m. At 7:a.m. the trail ride begins at the north end of the infield. A coggins test is required for all mules and horses entering the fairgrounds. All out of state equine also need health papers at the front gate. The mule show starts at 10:00 a.m. with our school band preforming and the grand entry in front of the grandstand. The following mule show is a series of timed events for mules only, such as musical tires, panty hose race, monkey in a tree, back to back race, Mule jumps, and more . These events vary from year to year, so you never know what may be next. The Rodeo will start on Saturday night at 7:00p.m. with the admission of a $2.00 button. So come early to get the best seats!
During the Mule Show on Saturday and Sunday there will be a Prize Give Away for all show contestants featuring items given by area business that support the Mule Festival.
Sunday’s events will begin with the trail ride starting at 6:45 a.m., at the north end of the infield. At 8:00a.m. the crafts, vendors, and office will open. Church service will be held at 8:00a.m. in the grandstand by the Fellowship of Christian Cowboys. The Mule Show begins at 10:30 a.m. with the grand entry followed by the costume contest and halter contest. Mule pulls are at noon.
Some other interests are the coloring contest done by local elementary schools. Pages will be displayed in the main office during the week of Festival. There will also be a raffle for a Dakota saddle and a beautiful hand made quilt (displayed in the office). New this year is a raffle of a real yearling Mule. Mule and tickets will be across from infield gate Mule festival souvenirs will be sold in the office. Festival history and memorabilia will be displayed also.
Car parking will be like last year in the field east of the fairgrounds and down the old drag strip. Follow signs. No Sale barn entry or exit.
Primitive and electrical camping is available on the grounds as a first come first serve bases. Electricity is turned on the Monday before. Camping fees will be collected at the front gate upon arrival. No reserving space that week unless festival approved and paid for. Stalls for mules may be rented upon request. Handicap parking and bathrooms provided. Handicap carts must check in at front gate or office. No ATV unless Mule Festival approved. Fire rings must be used for campfires. Security provided.
Those wishing to bring mules to participate in the show will be parked on the infield, and electricity is available. Competition is open to anyone. Events have no entry fee and are just for fun. Winners are awarded hand made trophies and ribbons. Must be a registered contestant to be eligible for prize give away. Registration is under the announcers stand.
