Candidates File For Office
The August 3, 2010, primary election is going to have several contested local races.
Four candidates have filed to fill the Collector’s seat, being left open by the retirement of Twila Harper. Gretchen Phillips and Debbie Barry Winters have filed on the Democrat ticket, while Jill McAfee and Michelle (Huckey) Allen face off on the Republican ticket.
Presiding Commissioner Paul Allen will face a primary challenge from Ron Brewer on the Republican slate. Eddie Knupp is unchallenged for the Democrat nomination, as is Steve Murphy for the Libertarian Party.
Mary Jones is the only Democrat to file for Circuit Clerk, and she will face Republican Kim Schantz in the fall.
County Clerk Leih Ann Hayden and County Treasurer Roberta McAfee, both Republicans, are unchallenged.
Clark County will have a new Associate Circuit Judge, as current Judge John Moon will not run again. ?Republican Rick Roberts will face Democrat H. Scott Summers for the position.
John Moon, a Democrat, is the only candidate who filed for Prosecuting Attorney.
Ruth Brotherton and Paul Brotherton filed as Democrats for the position on the Lincoln Committee. Jill McAfee filed as a Republican.
Roberta McAfee has filed as a Republican for the Madison Committeewoman position, and Edith Johnson filed as a Democrat for the Sweet Home Committeewoman position.
Steve Murphy filed for the Jackson Committeeman position as a Libertarian, Judith and Roger Gaston filed as Republicans for the Folker Committee positions, and S. Kay Biggerstaff filed as a Democrat for the Clay Committeewoman spot.
