HANNIBAL – This morning, Thursday, April 21 at 9 a.m., MoDOT will open Route 61/136 at Alexandria. The road was closed Wednesday evening due to flooding. Today, the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers at Knoxville, Iowa informed MoDOT they have stopped releasing water, which is why the flood water has receded at Alexandria. The Mississippi River could continue to see minor flooding over the weekend as a result of released water from the Red Rock Dam in central Iowa near Knoxville on the Des Moines River. Due to increased inflow into Lake Red Rock from its 12,323 square-mile watershed on the Des Moines River, pool levels will continue to rise as flood waters are stored. Depending on additional rainfall and increased inflow into the lake, releases could be increased causing minor flooding to continue off and on closing Route 61 at Alexandria over the next few days. MoDOT will set up detours if needed. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will notify MoDOT when increased outflows from Lake Red Rock will result in minor flooding closing the road at Alexandria. MoDOT will continue to keep motorists informed through the media.
