20th Annual Parade of Champions to be October 8

Marching band fans will have a chance to see over twenty-seven bands in action at the 20th Annual Parade of Champions parade and field show competition at Kahoka, MO on Saturday, October 8, 2010.
The competition, sponsored by the Clark County R-1 Fine Arts Boosters, will begin with the parade starting at 2:00 p.m. Twenty-four bands including CCR-1 Middle and High School bands will compete in the parade.
The field show competition will start at 5:00 p.m. at the CCR-1 activity field. Fourteen bands will be participating in the competition. Local fans will enjoy exhibition performances by the CCR-1 Middle School band and the CCR-1 Marching Indians.
“We are thrilled to have so many fine groups returning for our 20th anniversary, “ stated Bob Dooley, CCR-1 High School music instructor.
“I’m looking forward to seeing the bands. There is a lot of talent in the bands coming,” commented Kathy Williams, president of the Fine Arts Boosters.
Schools scheduled to appear in the parade are Highland High School, Centralia High School, Canton High School and Junior High bands, Bowling Green High School, Macon High School, Mark Twain High School, Monroe City High School, Palmyra High School, Palmyra Junior High, Fulton High School, Scotland High School, Scotland Junior High, Louisiana High School, Trenton High School and the CCR-1 middle school and high schools from Missouri; Warsaw High School, Nauvoo Colusa Junior High, Quincy High School and Quincy Junior High School from Illinois; Fort Madison High School, Davis County High School and Davis County Junior High from Iowa.
Bands competing in the field show event are Centralia Panther Pride Band, Hannibal High School, Bowling Green High School, Macon High School, Mark Twain High School, Fulton High School, Trenton High School, Monroe City High School in Missouri; Illini West High School, Warsaw High School, Quincy High School in Illinois; Davis County High School, Fort Madison High School, and Keokuk High School in Iowa.
Some of the field show programs that will be performed are Journey to OZ by Quincy High School, Blues Brothers by Illini West, Mark Twain will do music from Shrek, Bowling Green will do Anthems of Rock music and Clark County will perform O Fortuna from Carmina Burana, Puccini’s Nessum Dorma, and Beethoven’s Fur Elise.
“I continue to be amazed at how smooth everything runs each year,” said Dooley. “That is thanks to our parents and volunteers. It couldn’t be done without them.”
Williams added, “We have an awesome group of people working to put on Parade of Champions. The Boosters want to thank everyone for all their help.”
Winners of the parade and field show competitions will be selected on performance of music, marching precision, auxiliary units, and overall presentation. Special overall awards will be given to the best wind section, best percussion section, best auxiliary unit, best field commander, and best overall or the Sweepstakes Award.
“This is our biggest fundraiser for the Fine Arts Boosters,” said Williams. “The money raised at the Parade of Champions will be used to pay for replacement uniforms and instruments. ”
Sweatshirts, T-shirts, concessions, and souvenir programs will all be available for purchase. Admission will be charged for the field show competition.
“Parade of Champions is a wonderful day for our students to perform for their parents and the community,” stated Dooley. “It is also a wonderful way for the community to show its support of our student and fine arts at CCR-1.”
