HANNIBAL- MoDOT is expecting to close US 61 at Alexandria in Clark County within the next 24 hours due to high water. Crews will continue to monitor the road overnight and it will remain open to at least one lane as long as it is safe. US 61 traffic normally going across the Des Moines River Bridge at Alexandria to Keokuk, Iowa will be directed to the Des Moines River Bridge at St. Francisville.

Motorists traveling into Iowa should proceed north on US 27 to Wayland and continue through St. Francisville into Iowa. Detour signs are in place to advise motorists of these alternate routes.

MoDOT reminds motorists that it is dangerous to drive into water-covered roads.  Crews will continue to monitor the highway and will reopen it once the floodwater recedes and the roadway has been cleared for safe travel.
