Kahoka Receives Fluoridation Quality Award

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Office of Dental Health
is proud to announce that the community water system of City of Kahoka as been
awarded a Water Fluoridation Award from the United States Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention. Fluoridation is the adjustment of fluoride in drinking water
to a level that is effective for preventing tooth decay. This award recognizes those
water systems that have achieved excellence in community water fluoridation by
maintaining a consistent level of fluoridated water throughout the year 2016.
Community water fluoridation has been recognized by the CDC as one of the
ten great public health achievements of the 20th Century. Currently in Missouri,
59.5% of all community water systems fluoridate their water. This is an effective
and inexpensive method of preventing tooth decay-in fact, every dollar invested in
fluoridation saves at least $20 in costs for dental treatment.
