Just A Drill-Nursing Home Evacuated
On Thursday, June 13 at 630 pm, a full-scale evacuation exercise was conducted at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO. This exercise included participants from the Kahoka/Clark County Fire Department, Revere Fire Department, Wayland Fire Department, Clark County Rescue Squad, Clark County Ambulance, Kahoka City Police, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Clark County Dispatch, the Clark County Health Department and the Clark County Local Emergency Planning Committee.
Fourteen apparatus and vehicles as well as 37 emergency responders and the nursing home staff and residents participated in the exercise. This exercise is the second of two parts of an annual exercise series required under Center for Medicaid Services guidelines. This year’s scenario was centered on an attic fire, that when extinguished, caused enough structural harm to the facility to necessitate an evacuation to the Kahoka Christian Church across the street. This exercise is the culmination of the efforts of a 6-person exercise planning team consisting of nursing home administration and first responders.
The Kahoka/Clark County Offices of Emergency Management wish to thank the staff, family and residents of the Clark County Nursing Home as well as the 12-emergency service/public service agencies and their employees and volunteers for their efforts in making Clark County a more resilient community.
