UPDATED: Brief Power Outages Reported in Knox and Some Surrounding Counties

Knox County, MO – January 4, 2020 – 6:15 p.m. – According to a representative of Ameren Missouri, equipment failure on the 69,000-volt line between Kirksville and Edina caused power outages mainly in Knox and Lewis counties Saturday morning, which affected approximately 400 customers.

“The blinking was caused by some switching of some lines. When they switched the power to restore it, they thought the problem was solved,” said Ameren Missouri representative Annette Sweet.

Several hours later, blinking power affected a larger swath of customers spread out from the north side of Kirksville to Lewistown.

“They found it and they’re repairing it now. It was a piece of electrical equipment,” said Sweet.

Knox County, MO – January 4, 2020 – The Edina Sentinel has fielded a number of power outage reports from Ameren Missouri customers in Brashear, Edina, Hurdland, Knox City, Lewistown and Luray.

Some customers lost power from approximately 11:00 a.m. to approximately noon and power in Edina and Kirksville began flickering on and off at approximately 4:40 p.m.

Lewis County REC customers have not been affected by any outages today, according to a representative of the electric cooperative.

Ameren MO representatives are in the process of determining what is causing the problem.
