Eleanora Josephine (Thompson) Hudson

Eleanora Josephine (Thompson) Hudson passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 in Carthage, IL at the age of 100.

She was born on June 22, 1921, in St. Louis, Missouri to Arnold and Theresea (Wussler) Thompson. Eleanora was united in marriage to Marvin (Tuffy) Hudson on February 21, 1949.

She lived most of her live in and around Wayland, Missouri. In 2012, she moved to Carthage, Illinois, to be closer to most of her relatives.

Eleanora was postmaster in Wayland, Mo, retiring after twenty years in 1985. She served as treasurer of the Wayland Housing Corp. retiring after twenty-three years in 1999. Eleanora also served as the secretary/treasurer for the Wayland Special Road District retiring in 2012 after thirty-nine years. She was a member of St. Martha’s Catholic Church and served as a board member on the church council and finance committee and was president of the St. Martha’s Alter Society for a number of years. Eleanora loved working and doing things with her family and friends. Her main hobby was making quilts.

She is survived by five nieces, Tina (Dan) Gutapfel, Susan Shelton, Laura (John) Tice, Theresa McAdams, Nancy Damen, and five nephews, Kenneth (Chris) Shelton, Marvin (Huagson) Shelton, and Paul (Chris) Shelton. She is also survived by cousins, Ralph (Bonnie) Hardy and Paul (Vera) Hardy, Jane Cook and children, Mary Frances O’Berg and children, Pat Garner and all of their families and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin (Tuffy) Hudson, her parents, one infant son, three siblings, Patrica (Don) Shelton, Mary Ann Thomson, and Arnold Thompson as well as two very special cousins, Marcella (Dick) Ketcham and Bernadette (John) Brooks. The last ten years of her life were spent near Bernadette and her large family who acted as surrogate grandchildren in their devotion to her care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, January 21, 2022 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Kahoka, MO with Father Rob Fields officiating. Burial will be in the Frazee Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10 am – 11 am at the church.
