Gerald Ray “Red” Elder
Gerald Ray “Red” Elder 85, of Kahoka, MO died Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at his home.
He was born April 30, 1937 the son of Ben and Iva Bretz Elder in Farmington, IA. Gerald graduated from Revere High School in Revere, MO.
He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and proudly served his country.
On June 26, 1961 Gerald was united in marriage to Margaret Glasgow. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Steven M. Elder of Theodosia, MO, Dan R. Elder of Chadwick, MO and James A. Elder of Kahoka, MO and one daughter, Julie Ann Elder Carter of Kahoka, MO, six grandchildren, Tanya Elder Jones, Ashlee Gregory Evans, Sarah Elder, Emilie Elder, Staci Gregory and Jena Elder and fourteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Ruth McVey, Betty Brooks and Mildred Brooks and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, David S. Elder, one grandson, Matthew James Elder, three brothers, Ben “Abe” Elder, Edward “Jake” Elder and Michael Elder, his in-laws and one daughter-in-law, Colleen Elder.
Gerald was a member of First Baptist Church-Wayland in Wayland, MO.
He had been employed by Fruehauf Company as a truck driver for twenty-five years, until his retirement. After his retirement, Gerald and his wife moved to the Ozark area and he remodeled homes, worked as a car salesman and later as a security guard.
Gerald enjoyed traveling in his camper and never missed an opportunity to take off on an adventure with his wife. Gerald was a friendly, outgoing man and never met a stranger.
A graveside service with military rites was be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at Chambersburg Cemetery in Chambersburg, MO with Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating.
The Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO assisted the family with arrangements.
