LARRY SHAFFER
Larry Shaffer, 76 of Kahoka died Sunday, February 19, 2023 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka.
He was born November 4, 1946 in Antioch, MO the son of J. Eston and Anna Mae Kirchner Shaffer. Larry graduated from Kahoka High School with the class of 1964.
On June 22, 1968 he was united in marriage to Carolyn Simpson at the Shrine of St. Patrick in St. Patrick, MO. She survives.
He is also survived by his son, John Shaffer (Starla) of Kahoka and a daughter, Tammy Kelley (Mark) of Keokuk, four grandchildren, Scott Shaffer, Bryce Shaffer (Haley), Abigayle Ellison and Alexis Ellison, three step-grandchildren, Truman McDermott, Brett Kelley and Kristi Spears (Dayton), one great grandson, Bryson Foriste Shaffer and five step great grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Delbert Shaffer (Bernadette) of Lees Summit, MO along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister in infancy, three brothers, Leo Shaffer, Robert Shaffer and Jim Shaffer.
Larry and Carolyn owned Nix’s Café and later he was the director of the Clark County Senior Center for twenty-five years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Shrine of St. Patrick, Knights of Columbus, Clark County Moose Lodge and was a board member of the REC.
Larry enjoyed tending his vegetable and flower gardens and raising his farm animals. He loved to cook and made wonderful meals for his family. He had an outgoing personality and never met a stranger. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and going to their sporting events or any other activities they were involved in.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, February 25 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with Pastor Shawn McAfee officiating. Burial will be in the Kahoka Cemetery.
Visitation will be held after 1 p.m. Friday, February 24 at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
