EDITH DOCHTERMAN

 Edith Dochterman, 99, of Kahoka died Friday, March 3, 2023 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka. 

She was born April 12, 1923 in Arbela, Missouri, the youngest daughter of Willie Elsworth and Gertie Moneta Guthrie Harvey. Edith graduated from Granger High School with the Class of 1941. 

On February 12, 1941, she was united in marriage to John Henry “Hank” Dochterman in Kahoka at the home of Reverend Monroe. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1989. 

She was a member of the Luray United Methodist Church since May of 1949. She was initiated on May 29, 1949 in the Luray Chapter #528 Order of Eastern Star before they consolidated with Kahoka Chapter #40 in 1983. She was District Deputy Grand Matron in 1970-1988. A highlight was traveling to Ontario, Canada as a Grand Representative. Edith was a faithful member for over 70 years. She was also a member of Memphis Rebekah Lodge #632 and was the Noble Grand in 1978, 1996 and 1997. 

Edith made many angel food cakes from scratch. She enjoyed baking them and giving them away to family and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting afghans she made for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She brightened many lives with her smile and gracious heart. She loved the Lord and she loved people unconditionally. 

She is survived by a granddaughter: Tracy Lynn Kaylor (Glen) of Wyaconda, MO, step-grandchildren: Sherry Hall of Keokuk and Martin Helenthal of Keokuk, two great-grandchildren: Kyle Kaylor (BreAnna) of Durham, MO and Emily Kaylor (Cory Turner) of Quincy, IL; seven step-great-grandchildren: Dana Spurgeon, Dustin Clatt, Destinee Steenberg, Jocee Helenthal, Jennifer Phi, Jessica Morgan and Janell Delana; six great-great-grandchildren, daughter-in-law, Glenda Dochterman of Keokuk and many nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends. 

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents, two sons: Thomas Richard Dochterman and John Dochterman, Jr.; a daughter, Karen Egbert; two grandsons: Lonnie Dochterman and Scott Egbert, two sisters: Edna Mae Roberts and Elizabeth Pearl Hill; and three brothers: Leland Frank Harvey, James William Harvey and Edward Lee Harvey. 

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with Pastor Shawn McAfee officiating. Burial will be in the Combs Cemetery in Luray. 

Visitation will be held Monday at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends from 5 – 7 p.m. An Order of Eastern Star service will be held at 7 p.m. following the visitation on Monday.
