Clark County vs. Centralia
Carter Briscoe went the distance for Clark County as the Indians hosted the Centralia Panthers in their home opener on Monday, March 27.
Centralia put two runners on base in the first inning. With two out, right fielder Koy Nixon fielded a line drive and threw to catcher Collin Hunziker for the third out at the plate.
Carter Briscoe singled to start the Indians off. Hunziker laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Briscoe. Briscoe would score on an error when Gabe Howe hit a towering drive to deep center that was mishandled by Centralia.
The Panthers tied the game in the third inning. Clark County pulled ahead 2-1 after Hunziker singled, then advanced on Drew Holsted grounder, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Howe.
Centralia took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning.
Pitford doubled in the sixth to lead off Clark County. He was replaced by Lucus Eddleman as a pinch runner. Eddleman stole third and Nixon walked. Eddleman tied the game on a Caleb Nelson single.
Holsted doubled to start the Indian seventh inning. Howe was intentionally walked. Matt Miller hit into a fielders choice, advancing both runners. Pitford struck out, and Nixon singled for the wining run.
Clark County had eight hits in the game, with two each by Briscoe and Hunziker.
Clark County At Scotland County
Clark County scored in every inning on the road at Scotland County on Thursday.
Carter Briscoe singled and later scored to give the Indians a first inning lead.
The Tigers answered with a run in the bottom of the first.
Tristen Pitford and Koy Nixon scored on a Caleb Nelson double in the second inning. Nelson added another run on Holsted ground out, and the Indians ed 4-1.
Clark County added four runs in the third, with Matt Miller, Pitford, Nixon and Eli Elam crossing the plate. Gabe Howe doubled and later scored in the fourth inning, putting Clark County up 9-1. The Tigers put three runs across the plate to cut the Clark County lead to 9-4.
Hunziker and Holsted were hit by pitches, and scored on Howe single. Howe scored on a hit by Miller, and Clark County led 12-4. The Tigers rallied with four runs in their half of the fifth, cutting the gap to 12-8.
Briscoe scored in the sixth on a Hunziker single. Pitford would add the final run for Clark County, scoring on an Elam grounder, as the Indians took the 14-8 win. Conner Shatley pitched three innings, allowing four hits and one run. Koy Nixon pitch one-third on an inning, giving up two hits and three runs. Matt Miller closed for three innings, with three hit and four runs charged.
Clark County At Moberly
Clark County scored 17 runs in three inning to blow out the Moberly Spartans on Saturday. The Indians had 10 hits and 15 RBI’s in the short game.
The Indians put five runs on the scoreboard in the first, with Briscoe, Hunziker, Howe, Miller and Nixon crossing the plate.
The Spartans got their only run in the first.
Clark County piled 10 runs into the second inning, and two more in the third and final inning.
Briscoe pitched three innings, allowing one hit and one run. Hunziker had four RBI’s on two hits.
Clark County at Westran
In their second game on Saturday, the Indians faced Westran.
Trailing 1-0 after one innning, Pitford singled and advanced on balk. He scored on a double by Nixon to tie the game.
Westran added two runs in the second.
Eddleman gave the Indians a third-inning run, after being hit by pitch, then scoring on a Holsted hit. Holsted cross the plate on a Howe single to knot the game at 3-3.
Westran took the lead again in the bottom of the third 5-3.
A four-run fifth inning gave the Indians the lead for good. Briscoe single, and Eddleman struck out. Holsted walked, and Howe singled to bring Briscoe home. Holsted scored on a passed ball, and Miller walked. Pitford walked to load the bases, and Nixon struck out. Elam singled, scoring Howe and Miller, and the Indians led 7-5. Clark County added an insurance run in the seventh, with Nixon scoring on an error, giving the Indians an 8-1 win.
The Indians used five pitcher in the win. Gabe Howe threw two innings, allowing two hits and three runs. Ronan Anderson pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up two hit and one run. Ryder H Howe pitched one and a third innings, giving up one hit. Tristen Pitford threw two innings, giving up three hits, and Drew Hosted closed for one inning with no hits.
Briscoe, Holsted, Howe and Nixon each had two hits in the contest.
The Indians are on the road at Brookfield and Monroe City on Monday and Tuesday, host Highland on Thursday and visit Canton on Friday this week.
