Monroe City At Clark County
The Clark County Indians blew out the Monroe City Panthers on Monday night, May 1. The Indians pounded in seven runs in the first inning, and then added sixteen more in the second, taking a 23-1 win in 2 and a half innings.
Indian pitcher Drew Holsted put two Panther batters on base in the first, walking one and hitting one batter, but he also struck out three, ending the top of the first.
Carter Briscoe was hit by a pitch to open the bottom of the first. Briscoe stole second, and Collin Hunziker walked. Holsted tripled, scoring both runners. Holsted held at third on a Howe fly ball. Matt Miller walked. Koy Nixon singled to bring home Holsted and Howe, and Miller took third. Tristen Pitford grounded out, scoring Miller. An Eli Elam sacrifice brought Nixon home. Caleb Nelson, then stole second, and Briscoe doubled to score Nelson. After one inning, the Indians led 7-0.
The wheels really came off the bus for Monroe City in the bottom of the second, as Clark County sent 22 batters to the plate, scoring 16 runs, pulling ahead 23-0.
Monroe City put their sole run on the board in the third, but the game ended after 2 and a half innings.
Holsted gave up no hits or runs in two innings. Lucas Eddleman allowed three hits and one run in one inning.
Hannibal At Clark County
Hannibal struck first in Tuesday’s Senior Night matchup between the Indians and Hannibal.
Conner Shatley started for the Indians, allowed two hits and two runs in the top of the first.
Clark County answered quickly. Briscoe homered, and Hunziker was hit by a pitch. He scored on a Miller single.
Elam scored in the second to put Clark County up 3-2.
A Pirate homer tied the game in the third, but the Indians responded again in the bottom of the third. Miller reached on an error, and scored on a Pitford single.
In the fourth, another Hannibal home run tied the game at 4-4.
Clark County added four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Hunziker and Holsted both walked, and scored on a Howe hit. Miller singled, and Howe scored on an error. Nixon walked. Miller scored on a Pitfor single to put the Indians up 8-4.
A trio of solo homers kept the Pirates close, 8-7.
Briscoe singled in the fifth, and Chayce Webster came in as a courtesy runner. Hunziker hit a sacrifice, moving Webster ahead. Holsted single, and Webster scored. Howe cleared the bases with a homer, putting the Indians up 11-7.
Hannibal added a run in the seventh, but the Indian got the win 11-8.
Pitford, Howe and Briscoe each had three hits. Howe had four RBI’s.
Shatley got the win for the Indians, allowing five hits and four runs. Briscoe threw three innings, allowing seven hits and four runs.
Clark County At Knox County
The Clark County Indians out-hit the Eagles, but that wasn’t enough.
Clark County got on the board early, scoring twice in the first. Briscoe and Hunziker walked, and both scored on a Howe double.
Eddleman took Howe’s place on base, and took third on a Miller groundout. Nixon reached base on an error, and Eddleman scored, putting Clark County up 3-0.
Knox County scored one run in the second and four in the third to claim the 5-3 win
Howe allowed four hits and five runs in three innings. Holsted finished for three innings.
