The Clark County Indians hosted Knox County on Friday, May 12, in their regular season finale. Just nine days earlier, the Eagles upset the Indians in Edina, 5-3.
Junior pitcher Drew Holsted walked Cooper Clair and Rylan Roberts to start the game. and Braxton McCurren grounded out, putting the Eagle runners in scoring position. Robert Dooley and Blake Parrish struck out, ending the threat.
Carter Briscoe got the Indians going with a single. He stole second on a wild pitch by Kellen Parrish, and moved to third on a Collin Hunziker single. Holsted walked to load the bases. Gabe Howe hit into a double play from Blake Parrish to McCurren and first, but Briscoe put the first Indian run on the board. Matt Miller grounded out to end the inning, with Clark County up 1-0.
Kellen Parrish grounded out to open the Eagle second. Landon McCarty drew a walk, and Ryan Hall and Tyson Gilbert both struck out looking.
In the bottom of the second, Koy Nixon grounded out, and Tristen Pitford singled. Eli Elam walked. Caleb Nelson struck out, and Briscoe was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Hunziker hit a fly to center to end the inning.
Clair struck out to start the top of the third inning. Roberts grounded out, and McCurren singled. Dooley struck out, stranding one runner,
The bottom of the third, Blake Parrish took the mound of Knox County. Holsted walked, and Howe singled. Miller hit a grounder and reached base on an error. Nixon singled to right, scoring Holsted. Pitford and Elam struck out, and Nelson singled to center, bringing home Howe and Miller. Briscoe struck out to end the inning, but the Indians were up 4-0.
Blake Parrish grounded out and Kellen Parrish struck out swinging. McCarty also grounded out in the fourth.
In the Indian half of the fourth, Hunziker struck out, and Holsted hit a grounder and reached base on an error. Howe singled. Miller was out on a foul tip, and Nixon grounded out to end the inning.
Knox County went down in order in the top of the fifth inning. Clark County would add one run in the fifth when Holsted was walked on four straight pitches with the bases loaded and two outs. Howe struck out, stranding three Indians on the bases.
Roberts doubled in the top of the sixth, and moved to third on a McCurren ground out. Dooley singled to drive Roberts home. Black Parrish singled, moving Dooley into scoring position. Kellen Parrish hit into a fielder’s choice, and Dooley was thrown out at home. McCarty grounded out, ending the Eagles rally hopes.
McCurren faced the Indians in the Clark County sixth. Miller walked, and Nixon struck out. Pitford walked, and Elam sacrificed, putting runners on second and third. Nelson hit a fly ball and reached base on an error. Both runners scored, putting the Indian up 8-1, which would be the final.
Holsted threw five innings for Clark County, allowing one hit and no runs. Briscoe closed for the Indians, with three hits and one run charged.
Kellen Parrish gave up one run in two innings for the Eagles. Blake Parrish pitched two and a third innings, allowing three hits and three runs. McCurren closed, allowing one hit and four runs.
