Lots Of Fun Attractions, But No Horse Racing At 2007 Clark Co. Fair

By Mike Scott

“We had been receiving funding from Iowa for horse racing,” said Clark County Fair Board President Jeff Arnold.  “Last November, we received a letter from them saying they couldn’t provide the funding.  We knew this was going to happen sooner or later.”
A local group approached the fair board to hold one day of racing.
“We worked with the local group for two or three weeks, but we couldn’t work it out,” Arnold said.
The fair board has scheduled a number of attractions  for the 2007 fair.
Wednesday will be “Free Day, and will feature the return of the Washer Tournament, which started last year.
Thursday evening will feature a rodeo.  This year’s rodeo, Heartland Rodeo from Downing, Missouri, will feature saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, bull riding and barrel racing.
Bring you taste buds Friday afternoon as the Bar-B-Que contest returns, followed by the Twin States Truck and Tractor Pull in front of the grandstand Friday evening.  Six classes of tractors and two truck classes will compete.
Saturday will start with the Sand Volleyball tournament.  On Saturday afternoon, an antique tractor pull will take place in front of the grandstand.
Saturday evening, the Missouri Breaks band will entertain on the midway, and the popular Demolition Derby will be held on the midfield.
On Sunday afternoon, a new event, a pickup mud run, organized by Jason Logsdon of Wyaconda, will be held in the midfield area.
And of course, the all the 4-H animal, food and craft projects will be judged and displayed throughout the week.   The carnival returns again this year to the midway, so there will be fun for all ages at the 2007 Clark County Fair, July 25-29.  Advance sale season tickets will be available for $20, and at the gate for $25.  Watch for more information in the coming weeks.
