Make Plans To Attend 22nd Annual Mule Festival

It is time to come to the Clark Co. Mule Festival when it is September 14th, 15th, & 16th, 2007.  It is held at the Clark Co. Fairgrounds (Business Route EE or old Hwy 136) just outside of Kahoka, Mo. In the northeast corner of Missouri.  This will be the 22nd year of this great event.  People from all over the United States come to our mule and craft show!
This weekend features a Saturday and Sunday all day funny mule show as well as Friday night mule polo, team penning and roping.  Saturday night is the Rodeo with all the exciting thrills of any rodeo.  The festival also features area crafts, flea market, tack vendors, food, trail ride on Saturday and Sunday mornings, coloring contest, and camping.  The main gate admission is free but a $2.00 commemorative button is sold to help with festival expenses.  The $2.00 button is also required as admission to the Saturday night Rodeo.

The week begins with campers from all over America coming in and parking.  On Friday the vendors are set up and open at noon.  Friday’s night entertainment begins at 6:00 p.m. with the Mule Polo, followed by Mule team penning and roping.
Saturday morning opens with breakfast at the Clark Co. Rescue Squad’s stand on Vendor Alley at 6:00 a.m.  At 8:00 a.m. the main office will open selling souvenirs, displaying the coloring contest, and displaying the quilt for raffle.  The crafts, many varieties of food, and flea marketers will also open at 8:00 a.m.  At 7:00 a.m. the trail ride begins at the north end of the infield.  A coggins test is required for all mules and horses participating.   The all day funny mule show starts at 10:00 a.m. with our school band preforming and the grand entry in front of the grand stand.  A new attraction will be the Missouri University mule team and wagon here this year.  They will also be giving wagon rides around the fairgrounds.  The mule show is a series of timed events for mules only, such as musical tire, pantyhose race, monkey in a tree, back to back race, mule jump, and more.  These events vary from year to year, so you never know what may be next.  The Rodeo will start on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. with the admission for a $2.00 button.  So come early to get the best seats!
During the Mule Show on Saturday and Sunday there will be a Prize Give Away for all show contestants featuring items given by area business that support the Mule Festival.
Sunday’s events will begin with the trail ride starting at 6:45 a.m.  At the north end of the infield.  At 8:00a.m. the crafts and vendors open.  The Mule Show begins at 10:30 a.m. in front of the grandstand with the grand entry followed by the costume contest and halter class.  Mule pulls are at noon.
Some other interests are the coloring contest done by the local elementary schools.  Pages will be displayed in the main office during the week of the festival.  There will also be a raffle for a Dakota Saddle and a beautiful hand made quilt.  Mule festival souvenirs will be sold in the office, as well as festival history and mule memorabilia displayed.
Car parking will be like last year in the field east of the fairgrounds and down the old drag strip.
Primitive and electric camping is available on the grounds at a first come, first serve bases.  Electricity is turned on the Monday before.  Camping fees will be collected at the front gate upon arrival.  No reserving space that week unless festival approved and paid for.  Handicap parking and bathrooms are provided.  Handicap carts must check in at the gate or office.   Fire rings must be used for campfires.  Police security will be provided.
Those wishing to bring mules to participate in the show will be parked on the infield, camping is available ( some electric and some primitive).  Competition is open to anyone.  Events have no entry fee and are just for fun.  Winners are awarded hand made trophies and ribbons.  Must be a registered contestant to be eligible for give away prizes.  Registration is under the announcer stand.
