Traffic Accident Near Canton Kills Amish From Kahoka
A semi-truck struck the rear of an Amish buggy near Canton Saturday afternoon, killing a six year old Amish boy, Mahlon J. Eicher, and his mother Naomi Eicher, 29, of rural Kahoka. The accident occured on the four-lane portion of the highway, just north of the Canton exit.
According to the Missouri State Patrol, Richard P. Loven of Moberly was northbound on Hwy. 61, and struck the horse and buggy driven by Jacob Eicher of Kahoka. Also injured in the accident were Jacob Eicher, 30, Cletus Eicher, 8, and Edith Eicher, 3. All were transported to Blessing Hospital in Keokuk.
The accident was investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Major Crash Investigation Unit. Assisting at the scene were the Lewis County Sheriff’s Department, Canton Police, Canton Fire and Rescue, and the Clark County Ambulance.
