Residents Warned Of Medicare Scam
Clark County Sheriff Roy Gilbert has reported at least one case of a Medicae supplement scam. According to Sheriff Gilbert on February 1 a Clark County resident was contacted by an individual who stated that he was selling a Medicare supplement.
He had a foreign accent and gave his name as Glen Siegal and that he represented a company by the name of Union Consumer B Supplement Insurance. He stated that in order to purchase the supplement, he would need information. Following the completion of the application, he stated before he could send out the information packet or supplement card he needed the checking account number. When asked if they could simply mail him a check, he responded that he could not do that as the company worked through a direct withdrawl system. He added that his boss, a Mr. Allan Thompson would be giving a follow-up call later that same day. The follow up call never happened, and when the individual tried to call back, the number was not a working number. Sheriff Gilbert received was the same result when he tried the number.
Sheriff Gilbert added, "Our investigation shows that this type of scam usually is in the neighborhood of $300 – $400. It is vital that if a resident gets such a call that they do not give any information out to someone they do not know. It would help the investigation if the residents would get as much information as they can on the scam artist. However, while in this case he gave out names, those names no doubt are fakes and will change from call to call.
