Kahoka Council Awards Waterline Replacement Bid

The Kahoka Board of Aldermen took the next step in the improving the city’s water distribution system.  At a Monday, March 3, special session meeting, the board review bids for the construction work.
Potential bidders were asked to bid a cost of a backhoe and operator, plus an additional laborer.  Four bids were received for the project.
The four bids received were:
Kent DaVolt-$64 per hour.  The bid did not specify a backhoe operator.
Meyer Septic Service from Keokuk–$100 per hour plus $200 per bore under the street.
Armstrong Plumbing and Trenching-$72 per hour.
A & S Construction–$68 per hour.
“Kevin Yates has recommended that we approve Armstrong’s bid,” Kahoka Mayor Herb Butler said.  “They have been doing it since the start, and they work very well with our crew.”
Alderman Jerry Webber made the motion to accept Armstrong’s bid.  The motion passed on 3-1 vote.
The 2008 waterline project will include  about 16 blocks running from Court Street from Johnson to Ackland, Jefferson Street from Court to Maple, and Maple Street from Johnson to Jefferson, or about a 25 percent increase from the 2007 portion of the project.
The council spent the rest of the evening working on the 2008-2009 budget.
