Kahoka Aldermen Hold Annexation Hearing
By Mike Scott
The Kahoka Board of Aldermen tackled a light agenda at their Monday, July 14 meeting.
The board held a public hearing on Joe and Ann Edlen’s petition to be annexed into the city limits of Kahoka. No one spoke against the annexation. Interested parties can file their comments in writing within seven days.
The board approved a change to the city’s building permit ordinance, passing Bill 500.265 on its third reading. The measure establishes an expiration date for building permits, and outline revocation procedures.
The board discussed bids for two items. First, they considered bids for new partitions in the swimming pool restrooms. The current partitions are aging and difficult to clean, but are structurally sound. The lowest available bid was $2881, and the board decided to take no action at this time, and see if funds from the Houston Trust can be used for this purpose
.
The board also tabled consideration of bids for a drive-up utility bill drop box until a suitable location can be agreed upon.
Mayor Herb Bulter reported that C&R Markets had inquired about a “Wine Tasting” liquor permit. Butler reported that the city’s ordinance does allow such a permit to be issued.
In other business, the board:
* Approved building permits for Jim Bogner, Eric DeRosear and John Hume.
*Approved a measure allowing some records to be destroyed pending the review by City Attorney Rick Roberts.
* Police Chief Bill Conger reported 250 calls for service in June. Conger also reported that both police car cameras are installed and working.
* Discussed a lack of shade at the pool, and agreed to look into grants. Curtis Mack also stated that his company, CMCC, donated two tables, chairs, and umbrellas to the pool.
*Agreed to oil and chip road for Kevin Buford. Buford will pay for materials and labor.
*Cemetery Board will seek bids for stone restoration. Also they are getting a price for new signs for cemetery rules.
*Discussed the need for an electric rate increase. Set Monday, July 21 as a tentative meeting date.
