Clark County’s Relay for Life filled Kahoka’s City Park on Saturday, June 20, as hundreds of volunteers participated in the walking relay and events throughout the night.
Despite a few sprinkles of rain, a good crowd turned out for the ninth annual fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Eleven teams took part this year. They were: C& R Market, Exchange Bank of Northeast Missouri, Kahoka State Bank, Kahoka Medical Clinic Lifesavers, Randy McDaniel Family, Smokebusters, Peaksville Christian Church, Hunting for a Cure, St. Paul Church, and two teams from the Clark County High Schools FCCLA club. In addition, four ghost teams raised money for Relay without participating in the night’s activities. They were the Clark Co. Nursing Home, Clark Co. Health Department, Kahoka Lion’s Club and the Knights of Columbus.
Nine teams took part in the always popular and competitive “Lip Sync” contest, with this year’s winner being Exchange Bank. The Lifesavers team placed second, and Hunting for a Cure place third. Video clips of the “Lip Sync” contest can be viewed at www.nemonews.net.
This year’s Relay topped their goal of $32,000, raising at least $32,600.
“There is still some money coming in, so the final total will be higher,” Chairperson Paula Fox said on Monday. “I was very pleased with the turnout of the crowds, and the effort and enthusiasm of the teams. It all came together to make it a wonderful Relay for Life.”
The 2010 Relay for Life has been set for June 19, 2010.
