Clark Co. R-1 Schools To Sell Wyaconda Property

The Clark County R-1 School board has decided to sell the remaining property it owns from the now-defunct Wyaconda school district.
At the Thursday, September 10, meeting, the board decided to contact a real estate agent about selling the newer building.  Previously, the board wanted to establish an alternative school in cooperation with Scotland County at the site.
“I don’t see the grant money being available for at least a couple years,” CCR-1 Superintendent Ritchie Kracht told the board
The board also agreed to sell the trailer building to Clark County for one dollar.  The county would like to use it for temporary office space.
In other business, the board discussed at what absentee level classes would be cancelled if there is a flu outbreak.  Kracht said most districts cancel if there are 15-20 percent of students absent.
The board also agreed to interview all three architectural firms interested in doing a facility review to determine the district’s current and future needs. 
ACT test scores were lower last year, with only 74 percent of students “college ready”  for English.  Only 29 percent were  “college ready” for math, 50 percent for reading and 24% for science.
“ACT scores were down,” HS Principal Jason Harper noted, but projected next year to be one of the district’s best.
