Get Ready For the Clark County Fair

“We are very excited about this year’s Clark County Fair”, stated Jason Acklie, President of the Clark County Fair Board. He continued, “Among the many things which we are pleased to have for the fair goers is the return of harness racing. Harness racing will be held on a somewhat trial basis on Sunday, July 18 beginning at 1:30 P.M. We heard a great deal about getting the harness racing back, so this is an attempt to do just that, but whether it returns full time will be based on the support which it receives. Another new item this year will be held on Sunday, July 25 with a BOA sanctioned Clark County Bull Riding Challenge put on by the EH Cattle Company. On Thursday evening we have a new band “Madd Hoss Jackson” performing and we have heard great things about them and we are sure they will put on a great show. Friday will see the return of the truck and tractor pull and Saturday will see the return of the Demolition Derby, which always sees a big crowd. But Saturday gets started out on a slower pace when at 9:00 a.m. the Antique Tractor Pull begins. For those who like to see the roots of farming in Clark County this event provides a step back in time. We are also very pleased to have Kenny’s Funland Carnival returning this year. They provide the fair goers some excellent rides as well as special prices each evening of the fair. And speaking of specials, Wednesday, July 21 is our Free Admission Day. Wednesday also sees the return of the Washer Tournament beginning at 6:00 p.m. and a new event the Open Bucket Calf Show beginning at 5:30 p.m. It’s going to be a very busy fair with a lot going on and something for everyone in the family to enjoy. I have always enjoyed and attended the Clark County Fair since my parents began taking me to it as have the other fair board members. And that’s our challenge to bring our fellow citizens entertainment and provide a good family experience for all. It’s also a challenge that never really ends for any of us on the board as there really is no off season as we begin as soon as the fair is over to evaluate the successes and those things which may not have worked out as well. That’s why it’s very important that we hear back from fair goers about the things which they enjoyed or things which they would like to see different.”
As Acklie stated, the fair kicks off with Harness Racing on Sunday, July 18th at 1:30. On Monday the 19th the judging of Art Hall Exhibits begins at 4:30. On Tuesday morning beginning at 10:00 a.m. the 4-H and FFA Horse Show will start. Later that same day at 5:00 p.m. will be the Dog Show. Wednesday is another busy day as Acklie explained and will include a hypnotist act being held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday starts early at the fair with the Swine Show at 8:00 a.m. and Poultry Show at 10:00 a.m. The Goat and Sheep Show will begin at 3:00 p.m. later that day. Friday is another early day for exhibitors as the Beef & Cattle Show starting at 8:00 a.m. The band “Rock Steady” will close out Friday’s entertainment at midnight on the Midway. The 9th Annual Camper Lighting Contest is also held on Friday. Saturday is another early day as the Rabbit Show begins at 8:00 a.m. and the Sand Volleyball Tournament at 9:00 a.m. which is also the same time as the antique Tractor Pull. At 4:00 p.m. the Livestock and Art Hall sale begins and the BBQ Contest judging begins an hour later at 5:00 p.m. Saturday wraps up with the Demolition Derby at 7:00 p.m. And as already been noted the Bull Riding takes place at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. These are just a few of the many fun and entertaining events at the 2010 Clark County Fair. Be sure to attend and make it a family tradition.
