Mold Cleanup Cost CCR-1 Nearly $150K

The mold cleanup at Clark County R-1 Districts two elementary schools cost a total of $148,795.89, Superintendent Ritchie Kracht told board members at their October meeting on Thursday, October 13.
Service Master’s final cost was $89,679.28. ?The district paid a total of $38,887.51 for testing of the rooms, and $15,175.02 for two truckloads of ceiling tiles. Dumpsters cost $1584.20, and sink vanities and tops in the classrooms cost $1469.88, with an addition $2000 in miscellaneous expenses.
The district had $30,000 budgeted for building renovation, and should receive $25,000 from insurance.
The board also discussed the new elementary math series.
“The new math series is geared toward meeting common core standards,” said Black Hawk Principal Julie Brotherton. “It teaches students how to think about numbers in a different way.”
The board also discussed the possibility of building two softball fields behind the high school.
Joe Roberts reported on the costs of lighting the fields, telling the board Knox County recently spend only $16,000 installing new lights at their football field.
Roberts also reported MoDOT will allow an access to Highway 136.
Roberts request the board give its permission for volunteer to grade and shape the proposed softball fields and Junior High football practice field a the site this fall.
The board will discuss the issue again at its November meeting.
In other business, the board:
–Reviewed and approved Guidance Counselors’ reports an the Transportation and Bus Ridership reports.
–Kracht reported average daily attendance is down, which will affect state aid next year.
–The board also received an update on the status of all projects included in the $4 million dollar bond issue.
–Awarded the snow removal bid to Bash Concrete for $60 per hour.
