Mississippi River Search Underway Near Gregory Landing-Update

A search of the Mississippi River near Gregory Landing is underway for a missing barge worker.  Late Wednesday night or early Thursday morning, it is presumed the unidentified crew member fell overboard, sometime after passing through Lock and Dam 19.

The search area is between Gregory Landing and Fenway Landing.

The missing man is from the vessel Charlie G, owned by Marquette Transportation.  The man is not from the local area.

The Coast Guard, Missouri Highway Patrol, and Illinois Department of Natural Resource are involved in the search.

According to Missouri Highway Patrol Sgt. Brent Bernhart, a 20-year-old man was reported missing at about 11pm on Wednesday night.  He is presumed to have fallen into the river in approximately a one-mile stretch of the river near Gregory Landing.  The barge was northbound on the river.

“This is what we could classify as a boating crash, and will be on the patrol’s website,” said Bernhart.
