Get Your Tickets To GRP’s “Calendar Girls”
Great River Players will present the hit comedy “Calendar Girls”, by Tim Firth on April 13 and 14 at 7:30 pm and April 15 at 2:00 pm, at The Grand Theater in Keokuk, IA.
When Annie’s husband, John, gets leukemia, she and her best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow Women’s Institute members: Cora, Celia, Ruth and Jessie, to pose nude with them for an “alternative” calendar.
The news of the women’s charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on their small village. The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie’s friendship is put to the test.
This comedy is based on the true story of eleven WI members who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukemia Research Fund.
This show sends a message to all women over the age of 40: YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL! From the heartwarming friendships to the well-placed props covering the illusion of nudity, this script is a great reminder of self and society’s acceptance. Mild adult themes/Implied nudity.
Great River Players will be partnering with South Lee County Relay For Life, Clark County Relay For Life and Hancock County Fights Cancer. Each of these organizations will have the opportunity to collect donations during an intermission and after a performance.
Clark County Relay For Life will be collecting at the Friday night performance, South Lee County Relay For Life will be at the Saturday night show and Hancock County Fights Cancer will collect donations on Sunday afternoon. Bring your spare change!
