Clark County R-1 Board Votes To Close for Coronavirus

March 16, 2020

Clark County R-1 Staff, Students, Parents, Guardians, and Community Members:

Clark County R-1 School District is closely monitoring the situation related to the spread of the COVID-19 virus also known as the Coronavirus. We are following guidance from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), the Center of Disease and Control (CDC), the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and local health officials.

After careful consideration and information gathered from the DHSS, CDC, and local health professionals, the school board voted to immediately close Clark County R-1 Schools and suspend all student activities beginning Tuesday, March 17, and stay closed through Friday, April 3. As the April 3rd date approaches, the district will make decisions based on the information available at the time. During the closure, all district facilities will be closed to everyone other than essential district staff. The decision to close school was made in the best interest of our community and all of our district stakeholders.

Students, parents, and guardians are asked to watch closely for additional information on the delivery of optional student enrichment educational materials during the school closure. The buildings will make an announcement tomorrow on when each building will be open for students and parents to go to the buildings to pick up any personal items from lockers and classrooms. These items can stay in the lockers and classrooms during the closure but we realize some items may be needed during the school closure. The buildings will only be open during the listed times in tomorrow’s announcement. The district will also be working on plans regarding food service options. All of this information will be shared as proactively as possible.

We are committed to making decisions that are in the best interest of everyone in our school community and we understand the hardship this decision will likely place on families. Although this situation is out of our control, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Dr. Ritchie Kracht, Superintendent
Clark County R-1 School District
