Graduation Held Outdoors For First Time
The CCR-1 Class of 2020 will certainly have some special memories.
With the school year cut short back in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this class nearly went without a graduation ceremony.
On Sunday, May 17, sixty-three Clark County R-1 High School seniors took part in the school first outdoor ceremony, held on the Activity Field. Attendance was limited to only six guests per student, to maintain social distancing.
Co-Valedictorians for the Class of 2020 were Samantha Arnold and Brynn Sprague. Sprague was also recognized as Outstanding Senior Girl, and Outstanding Instrumental Musician.
Corbyn Harper was named Outstanding Senior Boy.
Andrew Moore received the Leadership Award and the Core Values/Character Traits award, which is selected by his fellow students.
Madison Bergman received the Citizenship Award.
Kevin Smith was honored with the High ACT award.
Maci Winters was named the Outstanding Senior Artist, and Jewell Hopp received the Outstanding Vocal Musician award.
A trio of Clark County athletes were honored. Jade Ross and Madison Kauth shared Outstanding Senior Female Athlete honors, and Caleb Lapsley was named Outstanding Senior Male Athlete.
On Sunday, the weather cleared just enough to allow the graduation ceremony to proceed. Guests were escorted to their seats, and graduates processed onto the field to their socially-distanced seats. Chastity Thomas welcomed those attending.
Speeches were presented by Co-Valedictorins Samantha Arnold and Brynn Sprague, and class president Andrew Moore, whose speech drew praise from online viewers, and will be available on the kahokamedia.com website.
Awards were presented, and the Senior Class Video played on the scoreboard before graduates crossed the stage to receive their diplomas.
