Drew Holstead struck out 14 Highland batters in six innings with two walks on three hits, leading Clark County (8- 2) to an 11-1, six inning win at Clark County on Thursday afternoon
Aiden Lay doubled Zander Johnson home with the lone Cougar tally in the first inning.
Carter Briscoe scored on a passed ball in the bottom of the first, knotting the score at one all. Koy Nixon squeezed Tristen Pitford home with what proved to be the winning run in the Indian second inning.
Elijah Elam bunted Koy Nixon home for a 3-1 Clark County lead after two full innings. Tristen Pitford scored the first of seven Clark County runs on a fifth inning wild pitch. Gabe how earned an RBI the hard way when he was hit by a pitch for another Clark County tally.
Matthew Miller drew a bases loaded walk for an 8-1 Indian advantage. Tristen Pitford drove in two more runs off reliever Gage Dawson for a 10-1 Clark County lead after five innings.
Collin Hunziker singled Caleb Nelson home with a two out RBI single in the bottom of the sixth for the 11-1 run rule win. Highland scored one run on three hits. Drew Smith started the game and took the loss. Smith pitched two and a third innings allowing five hits. Four runs, three earned with four walks and no strikeouts.
Devin Stutsman pitched two and a third innings allowing three hits, seven runs, one earned with six walks and two strikeouts. Gage Dawson pitched one inning allowing three hits, one earned run and two strikeouts.
Clark County scored 11 runs on 11 hits. Tristen Pitford was 2-2 with two runs scored, and two batted in Collin Hunziker was 2-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. Elija Elam went 2-4 with a run scored and another driven in.
Earlier in the week, Clark County traveled to Brookfield. The Indians fell behind 3-0 in the second inning.
Clark County got on the board in the third. Caleb Nelson walked, and advanced on an error which allowed Briscoe to reach base. Nelson scored on a Hunziker grounder.
In the fourth, the Indians picked up a pair of runs. Matt Miller singled to start the inning. Pitford popped out, and Miller got thrown out on a fielder’s choice hit by Nixon.
Elam hit a two-out grounder and reached on an error, which sent Nixon to third. Nelson singled to bring Nixon home and a Briscoe single scored Elam
Brookfield’s final run in the 4-3 loss came as a result of a seventh inning error by Clark County.
Connor Shatley threw six innings for Clark County, giving up two hits and three runs. Briscoe pitched in the seventh, allowing one run.
Clark County has a busy week this week, with a rematch at Highland Monday. On Tuesday, Clark County hosts Palmyra, and travels to West Hancock on Wednesday. On Thursday the Indians host South Shelby, and on Saturday Clark County is at Macon.
