New Positions Appointed At Clark County R-1

Lance Smith has been named the new Clark County Middle School Principal for the 2024-2025 school year. The CCR-1 Board made their decision in a special meeting on Thursday, May 2.

“I am excited to begin this new role in serving the students, staff, faculty, and community. With experience as a classroom teacher and coach for the past 13 years at Clark County, I truly feel like I know what it takes to maintain a successful middle school. As always, “It’s a great day to be an Indian!” Smith said.

 Smith will replace Jason Church as Middle School Principal.  Church is resigning to take the Superintendent’s position in Hamilton, IL.

 Smith has taught Social Studies at both the high school and middle school for the last 13 years at Clark County R-1.  

Mr. Smith has also had several coaching positions at Clark County including football, basketball, softball, scholar bowl, and Esports.   Mr. Smith is a graduate of Scotland County High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Culver Stockton College in history and political science.  Mr. Smith earned a Master of Education in Administration degree from William Woods University.  Lance Smith and his wife Lauren along with his two sons Theodore and Arthur live in the Clark County School District.  Lance Smith will officially take over the principal position on July 1, 2024.

Mr. John Weaver has been selected to be the next Activities Director at Clark County R-1 Schools.  Weaver is completing his 17th year in education, the past 12 at CCR-1.  John has served the District as the varsity girls basketball coach, track coach, and middle school football coach during his tenure as an Indian. Mr. Weaver and his teams have always embodied the ideals that make Indian Athletics special.   At previous stops at Knox County and LaPlata, Weaver served as a physical education instructor and athletic coach.  His vast varieties of experiences and success as a coach provide John with a wealth of knowledge to help guide Indian activities and support coaches.

Weaver will continue to serve as assistant principal at Clark County R-1 Middle School, as well as teach two periods of PE/Health.

Brock Egley has been named the Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach.  He will be assisted by Layne Sommers.

Other new hires include:

•Jordan Plenge-Special Education Teacher at the Indian Pride Learning Center.

•Joy Harper-Middle School Cheerleading.
