The Clark County Indians faced a tough challenge in their 2024 season opener, hosting the fourth-ranked Bowling Green Bobcats. With only eight seniors on the roster, the young Indians squad struggled against a powerhouse Bobcats team.
Bowling Green won the opening toss and quickly asserted their dominance, driving 83 yards to score with 7:23 left in the first quarter. Clark County’s defense managed to stop the two-point attempt, but the Bobcats took an early 6-0 lead.
Clark County responded with a promising kickoff return by Chayce Webster, aided by a facemask penalty that put the Indians into Bobcat territory. However, the Indians were unable to capitalize and turned the ball over on downs. The Bobcats wasted no time, going 59 yards in seven plays to extend their lead to 14-0 after a successful conversion.
The Indians’ next possession resulted in a three-and-out, but Corrick Hunziker delivered a booming punt that pinned the Bobcats at their own 7-yard line. Unfortunately, Bowling Green broke through with a 93-yard touchdown run on the very next play.
Bowling Green’s dominance continued as they added two more touchdowns before halftime—one on a punt return and another on a pick-six interception— taking a commanding 42-0 lead into the break.
Clark County showed signs of life in the second half. Webster connected on a long pass to Coltyn McDaniel, advancing the ball deep into Bobcat territory. However, the drive was cut short by an interception.
With a running clock in the second half, Bowling Green rotated in reserve players but still managed to add two more touchdowns, sealing a 56-0 victory.
The Bobcats dominated the ground game, rushing for 492 of their 515 total yards. Clark County managed 85 yards on the ground, with Webster leading the way with 69 yards, followed by Hunziker with 25 yards, and Austin Day with 17 yards. McDaniel led the Indians in receiving with 37 yards, while Hunziker added 20 receiving yards.
The Indians will look to regroup as they travel to Harrisburg on Friday, September 6, for their next game.
