A Kahoka man is facing multiple federal charges after authorities seized a significant quantity of drugs, firearms, and cash from his residence during an arrest on July 31.
Darek Wilson, 39, was taken into custody at his home at 489 West Commercial Street after officers from the Kahoka Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Clark County Sheriff’s Office, and a special agent from the North Missouri Drug Task Force executed an outstanding federal probation and parole violation warrant. The search and subsequent investigation led to the discovery of methamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms, prescription pills, and a stockpile of firearms.
Search Uncovers Large Drug and Weapon Cache
According to authorities, the investigation into Wilson began after his federal probation and parole officer uncovered a handgun and suspected methamphetamine during a recent home visit. This discovery led law enforcement to pursue the federal warrant, which was served on July 31.
Upon arriving at Wilson’s residence, officers requested consent to search the premises. Wilson granted permission, leading to a thorough search by local and state authorities. During the search, officers seized:
•Approximately 341 grams of a white crystalline substance that tested presumptive positive for methamphetamine,
•19 grams of psilocybin mushrooms,
•155 prescription pills of various types, including Hydrocodone,

A large cache of weapons, suspected illegal drugs, and cash were found during the search of a Kahoka home on July 31. On Wednesday, September 4, a federal grand jury indicted Derak Wilson of Kahoka on drug and gun charges.
•Three revolver handguns,
•Three semi-automatic pistols,
•One semi-automatic shotgun,
•One .556-caliber rifle, and
•Seven .22-caliber rifles.
In addition to the drugs and firearms, authorities confiscated $4,394 in U.S. currency, believed to be proceeds from illegal drug activity.
Federal Charges Filed
Wilson was initially held on a 24-hour investigative hold pending further charges. On September 4, 2024, a federal grand jury formally indicted him on multiple charges related to drug trafficking and firearms possession. The charges include:
•Two counts of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine,
•Two counts of being a felon in possession of firearms, and
•Two counts of possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
These charges stem from both the July 31 search and an earlier incident on July 29, during which Wilson was also found in possession of drugs and firearms. The grand jury’s indictment also includes forfeiture allegations, meaning Wilson could be required to forfeit any property linked to his drug trafficking activities, including the firearms and cash seized.
If convicted, Wilson faces significant prison time under federal sentencing guidelines. The charge of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine carries a minimum penalty of five years in prison, and possession of firearms in connection with drug trafficking could add further mandatory minimum sentences.
Police Chief Praises Proactive Law Enforcement Efforts
Kahoka Police Chief Michael Newbold, who took over the department’s leadership in 2023, praised the coordinated effort between local and state authorities in Wilson’s arrest.
“Since taking over leadership of the police department, I have pushed for more proactive enforcement and to end the scourge of methamphetamine in our community,” Chief Newbold said. “This case demonstrates the importance of teamwork between law enforcement agencies and our continued commitment to cracking down on illegal drug activity.”
The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the operation, along with the North Missouri Drug Task Force. Their joint efforts are part of a broader initiative aimed at reducing drug trafficking in rural parts of the state, where methamphetamine use remains a serious concern.
Public Encouraged to Report Suspicious Activity
Authorities are asking the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Residents with information regarding illegal drug activity or other crimes can contact the Kahoka Police Department at (660) 727-2915. Callers may remain anonymous.
Wilson remains in federal custody as he awaits trial. Under the law, he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
