Keokuk Concert Association and Opera Iowa present Cinderella
Mark your calendars as Keokuk Concert Association presents Cinderella, performed by Opera Iowa, taking place Saturday, March 15, at 7 p.m. This special addition to the 2024-2025 season is co-sponsored by the Keokuk Fine Arts Council and Dennis and Linda Apple, along with stage sponsor is Two Rivers Bank, and will be held at the beautiful Grand Theatre in Keokuk, located at 26 N. 6th St.
Though a much loved art form, opera sometimes bewilders audiences who find themselves listening to parts sung in a foreign language. Audiences need not despair this time, for Opera Iowa’s version of Cinderella will be performed entirely in English; people who may never have experienced the thrill and delight of live opera before will be able to deeply appreciate the performance in ways they never imagined in a vernacular version that packs along some exciting changes from the original as well.
Adorers of the classic tale will behold a fantastic, new interpretation emerging before their eyes, with unique twists being fashioned into the old favorite. This whimsical, magical performance is sure to strike the fancy of classic opera fans and newbies alike.
Here is what Opera Iowa has to say about the show which is sure to touch hearts young and old:
“Our offering for evening community performances is a perfect show for children and the whole family! From the composer of The Barber of Seville, Gioachino Rossini’s other famous opera, Cinderella, is a vocal and comedic romp! A wise magician takes the place of the fairy godmother and an evil stepfather rants and faves instead of the wicked stepmother. But the nasty stepsisters, Prince Charming and a glass slipper prove, beyond all question, that this is the fairy tale we all know and love. And when it’s combined with hilarious characters and set to some of Rossini’s finest music, it becomes comic opera at its most exhilarating best!”
