EWING, Mo. – The Clark County Lady Indians fought with heart and determination but came up short in the opening round of the Class 3 District 6 Tournament, falling to the Palmyra Lady Panthers 58-49 Tuesday night at Highland High School.
Both teams came out firing in a fast-paced first quarter, with Clark County’s Sydnee Binsbacher catching fire early, scoring 12 of her game-high 31 points in the opening period. The Lady Indians briefly took the lead at the 4:20 mark in the first quarter, but Palmyra responded and never relinquished control again.
Clark County trailed 23-15 after one, and the game remained close throughout. The Lady Indians showed resilience, especially in the fourth quarter, with Kaylie Yates scoring four of her six points late and Grace Parker hitting a basket in the final minute.
Palmyra had a balanced attack, led by Clare Williams (18 points) and Sydney Compton (16 points). Anna James hit key three-pointers in the third and fourth quarters, helping the Lady Panthers maintain their lead down the stretch.
Despite the loss, Clark County head coach Jade Birck expressed pride in her team.
“We ended with a record of 3-22, but I could not be more proud of this team,” Birck said. “They played very hard and stayed positive. It was an honor to coach this group! Lots of moral victories. These kids will be very successful in life because they have outstanding character and are a resilient bunch.”
Clark County’s season may have ended, but their fight and determination never wavered—a testament to the heart and character of the Lady Indians.
