Spring was in the air and everything was green this weekend in St. Patrick, as the town celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with a variety of activities included Irish Road Bowling, a 5K, gift giveaways, tours, dinner and Mass.
Former Kahoka resident H. Max Hiller has combined his love of stories, and his deep appreciation for the city of New Orleans, penning a mystery novel: The Blue Garou.

Total Transportation Day: Clark County OATS Volunteer Members had the opportunity to meet with Senator John Cauthorn at the annual Total Transportation Day in Jefferson City, bringing a message that thousands of Missourians depend on public transportation.
Sever Library: Sever Memorial Library received new shelves this week. Girl Scout troop 61 helped to set them up and move books from the old to the new shelves.
New Business: Meier Automotive opened Monday, March 21. The business owner, Noel Meier has 28 years of automotive service experience.
Kahoka Garden Club: The Perennial Garden Club of hosted its first bus trip. Thirty- three people from Kahoka, and several from Burlington, IA, and Memphis, MO, boarded a trailway bus at 4:30 on Saturday, March 12, headed for the annual Chicago Flower Show. The flower show was held at the Navy Pier. The club is looking forward to planning their second bus trip.

Earl Roberts, 57, of Wayland was dead on arrival at Keokuk Area Hospital, following a one-vehicle accident at Alexandria. He apparently suffered a heart attack before the accident.
Kathy Uhlmeyer was crowned St. Patrick’s Day Queen at St. Patrick. Dan Logsdon, sophomore at Muscatine Community College, won the sales manager contest, recently held in Des Moines, and will advance to the national contest in Florida.

Dixie Brennan was chosen Queen at St. Patrick on St. Patrick’s Day.
Dennis Toops, 18, of crossed the railroad tracks, near the school house, ahead of an approaching CB & Q freight train. The train struck the rear bumper and taillight of the car. Toops was not injured.

In the census year of 1920, the state boasted 77,348 illiterate persons of voting age. Of this number 47,066 were white. In point of “intelligence,” Clark was 10th. lt is difficult to believe that there were then 146 people in this county classified as illiterate.
Bothered by the noises, Dr. Keetler of Memphis discovered a nest of flying Squirrels in his garret.
