Ragan Recipient of “Grass Root” Worker Award: During the 44th Annual Missouri Democrat Days held Mach 6 & 7, Joanne Ragan of Kahoka was honored with the “Grass Root” Worker Award. Ragan spoke to the group during her acceptance of the award. The Democrat Days were held in Hannibal at the Hannibal Inn & Conference Center.
Firefighters from Wayland, Revere, Alexandria, and the Clark County Rural Fire Departments responded to a trailer fire in St. Francisville on Wednesday evening, March 18. The fire call was dispatched at about 5:30pm. on arrival, crews found the trailer fully-engulfed in flames, with black smoke billowing into the sky.
The City of Kahoka has a new police car on patrol. The purchase of this all black 2014 Dodge Charger approved at the board meeting in February.

School Board Candidates: Four candidates are vying for the open school board positions. Voters will go to the polls Tuesday, April 5th to vote for Stephen Otte, Matt Cormier, Kristy Lovell, and Darin Boudreau for the positions.
Easter Egg Hunt: Hundreds of area youth turned out Sunday afternoon to hunt over 1000 Easter eggs at the Clark County Fairground. The Moose Lodge hosted its annual Easter Egg Hunt under beautiful sunny skies.

The largest crowd ever, estimated at 1,000 or more, attended the St. Patrick’s Day festivities at St. Patrick. Special guest was Tommy Murphy of Ireland.
Clark County senior Kelly Fuge was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Wal-Mart.
Violet Toops was named OATS Volunteer of the Year.

The Wayland Volunteer Fire Department has purchased 1000-gallon pumper, fully equipped, from the Macomb Fire Department.
Faith Stice is the winner of the Clark County spelling bee, and Susan McVeigh is the alternate.
Stacie Mullenix was installed as Worthy Advisor of Kahoka Assembly 52 Order of Rainbow for Girls.

Clyde Shannon of Granger, en-route to his home Saturday, after receiving word his house was on fire, struck the rear of a semi on Highway 136, loaded with potatoes, demolishing his car. His house was also destroyed by the fire.
Echoes of the Keokuk Medical College founded in 1849 sounded for the last time, March 19, when Dr. Sm. S. Bennett died at his home in San Diego, California, at approximately 93 years of age. To all knowledge he was the last of the 7,700 medicos to pass the pearly gates.

A John Deere implement business will be in operation in Kahoka in the near future. lt will be operated by the McAndrew Bothers.
Dean Barry, Kahoka high school graduate in 1950 and son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Barry of Kahoka, is now an entomologist for the government in Wooster, Ohio.
Alois Renner of Wayland reports an unusual record made by 12 of his gilts that farrowed 138 pigs this spring.

This is the morning of March 25th, and there is plenty of white snow over the greening grass to track a rabbit.

Walter Alexander and family departed for their new home in the Sam Baker Park, Wayne County, Sunday.
Alexandria: The little snows brighten up the prospective wheat crop. Oats are sown but not up. Most everyone drills them Peas are up. Some sweet corn planted. Most of the melon ground is ready. The largest acreage will be planted ever know. The automobile furnishes a new market for melons.
Athens: Raking yards and gardens and burning brush and weed piles has been the order of the day for the past week.
