After a tough start to the season, the Clark County Varsity Indians are beginning to find their rhythm — and they’re doing it in style. With statement wins over Monroe City and Highland and a hard-fought loss to Scotland County, the Indians improved to 3–8 on the year behind explosive bats, smart base running, and clean defense.
Bennett Plenge Ignites the Offense in Rout of Monroe City
The spark began Tuesday with a jaw-dropping 23–1 victory over Monroe City, a game where junior standout Bennett Plenge led the offensive onslaught with five RBIs on three doubles and a sacrifice fly. Plenge’s bat stayed hot all game, as he drove in runs in the first, second, and third innings.
The Indians wasted no time, scoring eight runs in the first inning on a flurry of hits, including RBI singles by Elijah Miller, Corrick Hunziker, and Amos Phillips. The second inning was an avalanche — 11 more runs on just five hits, aided by smart base running and Monroe City miscues.
Ryder Howe took care of business on the mound, giving up just one run on four hits across three innings.
The team racked up 16 hits and 20 stolen bases, playing aggressive but controlled baseball. They also played flawless defense, committing no errors — a testament to the steady glove work of Coltyn McDaniel, who led the team with five fielding chances.
Close Battle Slips Away in Loss to Scotland County
The following day brought a different kind of test, and while the Indians fell to Scotland County 7–3, they showed grit and competitiveness throughout.
Plenge got the start on the hill, working 4.2 innings and allowing four runs while striking out two. The Indians’ offense stayed steady, collecting 10 hits, including two-hit games from Ryder Howe and Harrison Parker.
Corrick Hunziker again proved reliable in the heart of the lineup, delivering a clutch RBI double to tie the game in the third inning.
Despite the loss, the Indians’ defense again shone — zero errors for the second straight game, with Amos Phillips anchoring the field with five chances.
Webster Perfect at the Plate as Indians Roll Highland
On Thursday, it was Chayce Webster’s turn to take the spotlight — and he made the most of it, going a perfect 4-for-4at the plate in a dominant 16–1 win over Highland.
Webster’s presence was felt early and often, with a double in the first and three more singles in the following innings. He also swiped four bases, helping the Indians to a total of 11 steals on the day.
Elijah Miller and Corrick Hunziker also contributed multiple hits, while Gracyn Holsted delivered a standout performance from behind the plate, going 2-for-2 with five RBIs.
Phillips got the start on the mound and was brilliant, striking out six and allowing no earned runs across four innings.
The Indians once again played error-free defense — their third straight clean sheet — a sign of a team clicking on both sides of the ball.
