Last Wednesday, the Shrine of St. Patrick welcomed students from Notre Dame Catholic School in Burlington, Iowa. Approximately 35 students and two chaperones attended. Marcia Hardin led them on a tour of the Shrine and St. Patrick Cemetery. The group enjoyed games and visited the Old Irish Gift Shop, where they received postcards and mailed them to family and friends from the St. Patrick Post Office. Lunch was prepared and served by parishioners Bruce and Melody Uhlmeyer, Rick Klunder, and Marcia Hardin. It was an enjoyable day for all.
The St. Patrick Euchre Club met at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, and those in attendance enjoyed a lively round of cards.
Noreen Whitney, owner of the Nordic Farms Country Store in St. Patrick, reports she is very happy with foot traffic since opening on May 1. “It’s nice to have the store in town,” she said.
The Old Irish Gift Shop is getting a facelift. Steve Ward has been scraping the south side of the building in preparation for a fresh coat of paint, and the deck will soon be stained. The building turns 111 years old this year.
The Religious Education program is wrapping up for the year. The children have been a joy to teach and eager to learn—it’s been a great year. Vacation Bible School is scheduled for July 22–25, and a large group of kids is expected.
On Sunday, the following children made their First Communion: Sylas Daughtry, Warren Crenshaw, Riley Hufford, Izaak Gray, and Isabel Winkelman. It was a joyful occasion as they took this important step in their faith journey. The church was filled with family and friends, and a reception followed the service.
On Sunday, May 11, a Mother’s Day Breakfast was held in celebration of all mothers. The Daughters of Isabella presented the May Crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary as part of the event.
Around town, farm equipment is on the move as local farmers are busy planting, and lawnmowers are humming across St. Patrick as residents keep up with the fast-growing grass.
