Senior Cyrus Phillips was named to the Class 3 District 7 baseball team.
Lady Indians Medal At State Track Meet: The Clark County Lady Indians medaled in the 4×800 relay race at the Class 3 State Track Meet, held Friday and Saturday in Jefferson City. The team of Drenda Hess, Keelie O’Brien, Renae Buschling, and Rachel Buschling finished seventh, with a time of 10:14.03. Jessica Roberts finished seventh in the discus, with a throw of 104′ 10″. Renae Buschling placed ninth in both 1600M and 3200M runs.
Although no official Memorial Day Ceremony was held in Kahoka, four area veterans, along with a few family members and friends, gathered in Kahoka’s City Park on Monday, May 25, to remember those who have sewed and perished for the United States. “God bless our comrades,” said Pete Yates, a two-time Purple Heart winning Marine who sewed in Vietnam. “I miss them, and I wish they were here today.” Yates was joined by fellow Vietnam veteran Dennis Owen, as the pair fired a rifle salute. World War II veteran George Nichols and Korean War vet Milton Krueger stood at attention during the impromptu ceremony.
On Thursday, May 28, 2015, Eric DeRosear Chief Juvenile Officer of the First Judicial Circuit of Missouri, retired after 34 years of service. A reception was held at the Clark County Courthouse, where DeRosear and his wife, Walla, a recent retiree from the Clark County School District, were greeted by friends and colleagues. “He has been a fantastic juvenile officer and an asset to the community said Judge Gary Dial in his remarks. “We hope he and Walla have a long and happy retirement. DeRosear has no immediate plans, but Walla joked that she is looking for a job for him. We at The Media wish Eric and Walla a happy retirement.

The Mark Twain Chorale International performed their first concert of the season at Kahoka’s St. Paul Church on Sunday morning, June 5. The group leaves for Germany and Switzerland on June 27, to perform series of concerns in Europe. Local members are Wayne Blum, Jerry Braxton, Jeff Dyer, Lynette Dyer, Ida Lou Ross, Mike Scott, Michael Scott, and Carol Trump.

Donna Mohr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Mohr has been hired as extension home economist for the Iowa State University extension service of Appanoose and Wayne County.
Dan Deatrick, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Deatrick of Kahoka graduated cum laude from Hyles Anderson College in Crown Point, Indiana, was and ordained for the ministry in an ordination service following graduation.
Martha Fox will receive her associate’s degree in nursing in June. She is employed at the Graham Hospital. David Danker graduated cum laude with a degree in ag education at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Flint Ridge: the farmers are busy working in the fields from daylight till dark, and some later than that.
Williamstown: Wesley Davis Junior recently jumped from a swing at school and broke his arm.

Early this week, Roy Bruner was discharged for one offense and immediately picked up by the sherif on a charge of possessing intoxicants. And in circuit court this week, Wilbert Johnson was given 30 days in the holdover for lifting three at setting hands – 10 days per hand – at Walter Kinnard’s property.
John Walters, 82, of Edina, a hardy old bee man and somewhat immune, is recovering, and his old sorrel mare is dead, of bee stings received when thousands of bees went on a rampage near his home Saturday morning.
