Solemn Duty: Veterans from Kahoka’s American Legion and VFW joined with Troop 145 to properly dispose of worn flags on Sunday, June 14, which was Flag Day. Dozens of worn flags were burned in the ceremony.
Kahoka celebrated Flag Day early on Thursday, June 11, with its annual Flag Day Parade around the square. More than 200 kids took part in the event, which has taken place for the past 18 years.

Youth of all ages scrambled to catch one of 100 ping pong balls dropped from an airplane at O- Mak-O-Hak Park. The event was the highlight of the Clark County Trails Coalition “Family Fun In the Park” night.
Kahoka observed their annual Flag Day celebration on Tuesday, June 14. Over 130 young people from the community took part in the event.
Clark County Indian graduate D.J. Shatley took part in the Quincy All-Star basketball game. Sean Kite played in the KHQA Do Or Die Bowl football game.
A fire destroyed a mobile home owned by Gerald and Alma Evans, northeast of Wayland.

The shrine of St. Patrick will celebrate its 128 annual Fourth of July celebration in Saint Patrick.
Top salesmen in the Wayland Ball Association’s fundraising raffle were Lacey Spurgeon, Julie Smith and Bradley Dunlap.

More than 300 bales of new hay overheated and ignited, destroying a barn at the John Carnes home east of Kahoka.
Charlene Selway and Rhonda Bertram, with youth assistant Carolyn Holmes, attended State 4-H week at the University of Missouri campus.
Suzanne Webster graduated June 6, from St. Mary’s Hospital medical technician school in Quincy.
The Cheese Company, established in 1936 by John Steinman, continues under the direction of his sons, John F. and George. There are 22 full-time employees.

Joe Buford, who has taught 20 years at Gorin high school, will teach in the CCR-1 school district at Kahoka this year.
Janet Maddox is attending Girls State at Columbia.
A Shetland pony, owned by Robert Legg of Williamstown, was struck and killed by a truck being driven by Ronald Logsdon of Canton.
Albert Reynolds has bought the residence property of the late Dr. and Mrs. Perry Borton on W. Main Street. Dr. and Mrs. Willis Hoewing have purchased the residence of Mr. and Mrs. LB McCoy on West Chestnut.

Hailstones, described as being an inch in diameter, Sunday afternoon, tore out crops in an area half mile wide and 3 miles long near Williamstown.
Local youngsters Norma Jean Hess and Gary Plenge sang “Open Up Your Heart” on KHQA Saturday night.

T.V. Wendling was stricken with paralysis at his home in Medill. He is one of our best men and a truly progressive Farmer.
Hearing an explosion at 4 AM, Monday, Oval St. Clair of Luray notified Sheriff Smith. Shortly afterward, Sheriff Myers of Memphis nabbed a man, admitting to the name of George Roberts, with a shotgun, some $30, and the fountain pen belonging to the Luray post office.
Clyde, son of city Marshal Theodore Blum accepted a well-liked position at Beaver, Oklahoma, and is happy on the job. Clyde is a “trusty”.
