Mark and Teresa Woodworth spent a long weekend visiting friends in Georgia. They went to a comedy club and stayed in a Vrbo cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains. They said the scenery was beautiful. Now they are home and back to work installing more solar panels.
Addy Uhlmeyer, granddaughter of Bruce and Melody Uhlmeyer, played softball in the Missouri Senior Showcase Games held at Mizzou in Columbia, Missouri, last Monday. Addy’s team won both games. On Wednesday, Bruce and Melody traveled to Quincy, Illinois, to watch Addy play in the Missouri-Illinois All-Star doubleheader. Missouri won both games. Congratulations, Addy!
Congratulations to Catherine Hinkebein, daughter of Kevin and Carol (Kirchner) Hinkebein of O’Fallon, Missouri, who graduated with honors from Mizzou with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance and banking.
The Daughters of Isabella hosted the Clergy and Religious Appreciation Day in honor of Father Rob Fields, celebrating his 43rd anniversary of his ordination into the priesthood.
Christina Kirchner, daughter-in-law of St. Patrick natives Curtis and Jenny Kirchner, has earned her Doctor of Education. Congratulations, Dr. Kirchner!
Plans are progressing for the July 5 Family Picnic at the Shrine of St. Patrick. A lap quilt made by St. Patrick native Peggy Uhlmeyer Maples will be raffled off. Each year, Peggy makes a quilt and donates it to the shrine as a fundraiser. Also, the quilt show will feature St. Patrick’s own Wilma Boudreau. Wilma was an excellent quilter, and her family will be providing several quilts for people to see.
Also new this year is the People’s Choice Award. Folks attending can vote on their favorite quilt, and the winner will receive $50. Anyone wanting to display their quilts is welcome to do so. Please call Melody Uhlmeyer at 660-341-3119 or Marcia Hardin at 573-406-2118.
Many other events will be held that day, including kids games such as a free throw contest, watermelon eating contest, egg roulette, a bounce house, and many other games. The bingo tent is always a big hit and will have many great prizes this year. Last but not least is the greased pig contest, which always draws a large crowd and many participants. We invite all to attend this great family day and enjoy a wonderful fried chicken dinner too.
Also happening on July 5 at Lake of the Oaks is the annual Kids Fishing Derby. It is open to kids ages 3 to 17 and begins at 9:30 a.m. This event is always a lot of fun for the kids.
I think we can all agree the temperatures are too hot. Be sure to keep your furry friends and other animals cool.
