Kahoka has a flavorful new addition in town. Andrewsky’s Cheese & Sausage Store, owned and operated by Kevin Andrews, officially opened its doors on Thursday, July 3, 2025. The shop is already drawing attention for its specialty cheeses and meats.
Andrews, 58, is no stranger to hard work or Wisconsin dairy. Originally from north central Wisconsin, he grew up milking cows and working on farms before a brief stint at the dairy he now sources cheese from. “From there, I went to Illinois and I worked in factories most of my life,” he said.
While he’s owned land near Kahoka since 1996, Andrews moved to the area full-time in 2019. After some time off, he felt the urge to jump back into something productive. “I just thought, you know, I need to do something. So, I took a draw from my retirement to fund the startup for the store,” he said.
The store idea wasn’t a lifelong dream, but it quickly turned into a reality this past spring.
After buying a few hundred dollars’ worth of cheese over Mother’s Day weekend, the concept came to life.
“People would buy cheese from me because they loved it, but they couldn’t get it around here, and so I thought it would be a good business to open in the area,” Andrews said.
Andrews named the store Andrewsky’s as a nod to his heritage and a running joke among one of his friends.
Inside the shop, customers will find a growing selection of Wisconsin cheeses and cheese spreads, German and Polish sausages and meats and maple syrup.
“Eventually, we might have some relishes and canned goods of various nationalities,” he said. “But mostly cheese and sausages.”
The cheese is sourced directly from two dairies in north central Wisconsin. “They’re both very good,” Andrews said. As for some of the sausages, he’s currently buying them from Chicago, IL and is looking to buy some products from Aurora, IL. Andrews is open to custom orders as well at the store.
“I had somebody ask me about chocolate cheese, so I ordered some,” he said.
Andrews runs the store with help from his son, Brett, who’s still in high school.
“I thought it might be a good business for him after he gets out of high school,” Andrews said.
While the store hasn’t held a grand opening yet, Andrews plans to host one in the coming weeks. For now, Andrewsky’s Cheese & Sausage Store is open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., though hours may change depending on demand. Customers can call the store at 660-275-3021.
This venture is Andrews’ first time owning his own business, and the community response has already exceeded his expectations.
“It’s unbelievable to me,” he said. “I’ve been overwhelmed with everybody just thanking me. It’s really been a blessing to me. I’m very grateful to them for their support.”
As for the future of Andrewsky’s Cheese & Sausage Store, Andrews just hopes that his customers are happy with the products and that the store is successful. He invites everyone to stop by and check out the store. The store is located at 116 West Main Street, in Kahoka, MO next to H&M Antiques.
