McDaniel Dominates White Division at Gans Creek Classic as Clark County Shines Among Multi-State Competition

Clark County’s cross country teams made the most of a warm, sunny morning in Columbia, Missouri, turning in a strong collective performance at the 2025 Gans Creek Classic. Competing in the White Division, the Indians held their own against a massive and talented field that included teams from Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky, Arkansas, Texas, Alabama, and Kansas. At the center of it all was senior Mason McDaniel, who stole the show with a 1st-place finish in the varsity boys’ 5,000-meter race, crossing the line in 16:10.00.
McDaniel’s victory wasn’t just a personal triumph—it was a statement. In a meet featuring hundreds of athletes from seven different states, his performance stood out at the front of the pack and set the tone for Clark County’s day.
On the girls’ side, Presley Ames led the way for the Lady Indians with a time of 22:35.00, placing 59th in the White Division. Lillian Shaffer followed in 87th (23:35.00), and Madison Boyd wasn’t far behind in 101st (23:58.30), both continuing to provide consistency in the middle of the lineup. Maci Hopp placed 175th with a time of 26:53.50, and Cora Phillips rounded out the effort in 188th at 28:34.20.
The boys’ team showed promising depth behind McDaniel. Malaki Phillips delivered a solid finish at 31st place with a time of 18:15.30, and Quintin Roach turned in a strong race for 63rd (19:01.00). Grant Smeltser (86th, 19:35.90), Braedyn Clark (115th, 20:06.50), and Wyle Winters (120th, 20:38.60) kept the pack tight through the middle of the field. Silas Harmon came through in 140th at 21:40.30, while Nathan Shotts closed out the varsity squad in 178th with a time of 24:03.80.
Hosted at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course, the meet is known for attracting elite-level teams and offering a championship-caliber experience. The course itself features a wide, irrigated turf layout designed for both speed and strategy, with multiple loops and long sightlines ideal for spectators. With its national feel and deep competition, the Gans Creek Classic has become a vital proving ground for teams looking to measure themselves on a broader scale.
